White man makes alcohol and it's great. I love it, you love it. Kills motherfuckers every day; some of ya'll ain't even make home tonight because of alcohol! But it's all right, 'cuz it's all white.
White man makes cigarettes. Cigarettes' the most dangerous product known to man; kills motherfuckers every day. Cigarettes are so dangerous they kill people that don't smoke! But it's all right, 'cuz it's all white!
Could you imagine if the Philip Morris family was a bunch of niggas from mississipi? How illegal a pack of smokes would be? You would get 60 years for a pack of this shit.
White man makes guns, nobody gives a fuck. Kids shoot people at school, nobody gives a fuck; white man makes gun, no problem. Black man SAYS "GUN": CONGRESSIONAL HEARING

This is my favorite stand-up show, followed by Ricky Gervai's "Animals" - a close second

We gonna run, run, run to the cities of the future
Take what we can
And bring it back home
So take me down
To the cities of the future
Everybody's happy
And I feel at home!

Back in the day....

The average U.S. citizen completely ignores the regularity with which the automobile kills him, maims him, embroils him with the law and provides mobile shelter for rakes intent on seducing his daughters. He takes it into his garage as fondly as an Arab leading a prize mare into his tent. He woos it with Simoniz, Prestone, Ethyl and rich lubricants -- and goes broke trading it in on something flashier an hour after he has made the last payment on the old one.
By last week, this peculiar state of mind had not only sucked thousands of American oil wells dry, stripped the rubber groves of Malaya, produced the world's most inhuman industry and its most recalcitrant labor union, but had filled U.S. streets with so many automobiles that it was almost impossible to drive one. In some big cities, vast traffic jams never really got untangled from dawn to midnight; the bray of horns, the stink of exhaust fumes, and the crunch of crumpling metal eddied up from them as insistently as the vaporous roar of Niagara.

Windows vs. Linux
Terça-feira, 19 de Fevereiro de 2008 01:04
I love The Linux Action Show.
Mostly, because the hosts can be very passionate about linux, and yet impartial enough when acknowledging it's flaws; also, they come from being Apple fanboys to switching to linux and becoming linux fanboys. Openly.
That's something I've been relating to these last few months; I'm a Windows developer (C#, ASP... the lot) but lately it seems like Microsoft is trying to make our lives miserable by making it "simpler".
Many of the latest releases from Microsoft didn't quite seem all that great to me... it started last year with Vista - didn't like it, mostly because it just looks a lot worse than a nicely-tweaked Compiz desktop, and it's a LOT heavier - and continued with the following:
- Silverlight - a flash replacement? What for exactly? Flash fits perfectly for what it's supposed to do, and it's widespread already; this effort seems like pure Microsoft market-takeover-egotrip.
- Atlas / .NET Ajax - Just use prototype and polish your javascript, lazy coder.
- Some aspects of .NET 3.0, like LINQ; man.... I can see myself fixing some crazy LINQ code already... 10 bucks says in 2009, 30% of TheDailyWTF submissions will have to do with LINQ.
In the latest project I've been working, there's quite a bit of C++, and I have to deal with a device that runs linux; the thing runs smoothly it's a low-end machine and everything is fast, I can do all kinds of cool stuff with grep and all that jazz... I'm just touching the surface and I like it already...
I've installed Ubuntu and Debian in my home machine, but I have a very, very "generic" daewoo (yes, daewoo) 17" monitor and I couldn't get it to work properly yet; I think I just need a bit more teaking to get it working (a friend of mine tried to fix it, I bet him 10 pushups that he couldn't do it in under 30 minutes, and the video of his workout I shall post on youtube any day now).
The point is... when I hear those guys on the podcast talking about linux, I WANT to know better of what they're saying, I want to polish my C++ to get it as good as my C# and program in another environment, I want to run Compiz every day, I want.... to.... change. And one thing is for sure: I ain't changing to Vista.

Following the accusations of ThePirateBay admins, today's "wear yellow for piracy day". For me, it's not so much about piracy or filesharing as much as it is about people being wrongfullly accused, whatever the situation might be.
Also, this old model of making profit from music and movies is doomed for sure, the corporations can't hold the means of distribution any more; in my opinion, they must simply face the fact that you can't make a movie for hundreds and hundreds of millions of dollars; just tone the expenses down; forget paying dozens of millions of dollars for a SINGLE actor, I say give some new dude a chance - take Kevin Smith for exemple: he said in his podcast that his movie "Jersey Girl" cost 40 million to make, out of wich 30 million was for Ben Affleck's payment alone, and the other 10 for the rest of the movie! If you can make an ENTIRE MOVIE with 10 million, you're telling me there's absolutely not a single new actor that can play that part, so you can save the extra 30 and make THREE WHOLE MOVIES ? This is crazy...
So I guess my point is to stop this "blockbuster" mentality and give more power to the small guys, get some new people, and for f...'s sake, just LET US DOWNLOAD THE DAMN THING FOR A DECENT PRICE, WITH HIGH QUALITY, HIGH SPEED, ON THE SAME DAY OF THE MAJOR RELEASE, AND ON ANY COUNTRY! - I'm living in Brazil and there's not even iTunes here.
